Alfred Stieglitz’s photograph The Steerage (1907) was an early work of inventive modernism, and regarded by many historians to be an important photograph ever made. Of course these quotes won’t be helpful solely to positive art photographers, but for anyone enthusiastic about pictures and art, and wanting to explore photography as an instrument to create art. And why form a major collection of “art photography” if there is such an essential one at the Museum of Fantastic Arts, Houston.

Rosalind Solomon was born in Highland Park, Illinois on April 2, 1930, and started her career as a photographer at age 38. She studied with Lisette Model and in 1986 was given a solo exhibition on the Museum of Fashionable Artwork, New York, entitled “Ritual.” She has since shown in practically 30 solo exhibitions all over the world, together with in a retrospective monograph organized by the Photographische Sammlung in Cologne, Germany.
