The worst piece of advice I got when I first started in this industry was..”Don’t get personal…remember…its just business..” The thing about wedding photojournalism…and photography in general, is that it IS personal. The most memorable images in our lives transport us to exact moments in time. They make us laugh out loud, cry big fat tears..and literally light up inside. These images allow us to relive the beauty of our favorite moments over and over… and more often than not… those moments are personal. So, for me…6 years in..I have to say the business part comes in a distant second to shooting from the soul…
The next wedding I have to share has a wonderful story befitting of this special couple… I met Jenn while shooting her cousin Carmen’s wedding in 2006 ( where I snapped her & Ron’s first photo together :) and was thrilled to have the WHOLE family into the studio earlier this year for family photos. I received emails periodically from Jenn about how excited she was to “get married & have kids” so she could have me photograph them ( how sweet is that?) SO, when I got the call that Ron had proposed and they wanted me to shoot their destination wedding…I was honored ( and ready to hop on a plane!). Jenn even added a little section to their wedding website that serves as a pick-me-up anytime I’m feeling stressed :) She and Ron are a couple I hope to photograph for many years to come..
I have to admit I was nervous about shooting this one alone, so I looked like a walking Canon advertisement with all 3 5Ds hanging ’round my neck! But it was worth looking ridiculous to work with this couple.. ;) Thanks to Jenn & Ron for letting us share in their amazing day!

I love that Ron gave her 2 cards…one brought her to tears…and the other cracked her up. Smart fella… :)

The whole fun bunch… :)

My hubby working his musical magic…in the dark :)
When they brought out the floodlights, it turned into a mini-concert. There were even resort guests cheering from the balconies! Yes, he’s really THAT good.. :)
Can you believe Jenn flew tons of starfish to Jamaica with her? She did such a fabulous job on the details… and I heard through the grapevine that Ron even helped glue the menus… ;)
Huge hugs to you guys! I know you have a lifetime of love & laughter ahead of you…
Ok, where can we buy your hubby’s amazing music? I already can think of numerous people who need this song, including me!! Amazing photography, once again, ma’am. You inspire me so much! Inspiration to acknowledge the beauty of nature, love and life. Well done! :)
Mandy! Hi gorgeous! I will send you a copy of Mark’s new record as soon as its ready…he’s almost finished! He will also have a new website with a section for ordering…so you can send it to all of your friends in Texas! :) Thanks for the sweet comment..tell Ken Hi! :)
Kellie, Kellie, Kellie….Once again you leave me speechless….grinning like the cheshire cat with big, fat crocodile tears all at the same time!! As I have said many times over….magical, just magical! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Hugs~
Kellie-
I have been following your work for about 6 months now! These are just fabulous!
I love these sooo much! I love the one of them dancing on the beach, just beautiful!
Ok I have just decided my New Year’s Resolution is to come and see you! :) Seriously, Every. Single. One. is GORGEOUS!!!!!!
Awesome images, Kellie! :)
OK, I’m one of the lurkers - and former clients - who checks in regularly to see the latest Kellie Kano magic, but this is the first time that I’ve HAD to comment: I absolutely LOVE the shot with the chandelier! Beautifully done, as always!!! And best of luck to the lovely couple :-)
OK, First of all everybody knows it’s impossible to get those kind of night shots with detail and contrast like that. Second of all you’re shooting into a bright light on three of them which is double impossible. These images are magical. I think the only way you can top yourself is to go 3-D!
Kel… I guess it is inappropriate to comment on every picture?! I want to! How did you get the clouds in that first one to copy her veil?;) WOW! Mark need to add that shot of him to his rock collection, Schiffmanns jewelry should buy that necklace one for one of their ads, and did I mention every picture is crazy gorgeous?!!! Thank you for blogging your talents to brighten up so many of our days!!
Giiiiirrrl! Amazing work! They couldn’t have picked a better photographer for their day!
Gorgeous images! LOVE the shot with the swirly veil, she looks so serene.
In a word…WOW!! You’re right, the photos DO take us back to a wonderful time and place. The photos are awesome! It is like magic to see a person with 3 cameras walking around shooting pictures like anyone else, and then PRESTO those pictures become living memories. Kudos to you and to your husband as well, his totally impromto rendition of “Stairway” (from a request from the crowd!)was so great! You two make a great couple/team yourselves. Cheers!
ugh. I am so freaking jealous Kellie. COME ON!!! Take us with u next time. ;) So cool to see how much you love what you do too (even though we already knew it. Haha!). -D.
ummm yeah, WOW! I having a hard time narrowing down my favorites but I would expect there are some editors chomping at the bit to publish this one. You should be very proud, another AMAZING wedding. Just take me with you next time, thats all i ask ;)
